人类的心理受控制化和自动化两套系统的双重控制。大象是自动化系统(感性:情绪、感觉、本能反应、直觉)，骑象人是控制化系统(理性:有意识的思考)。人类过于看重甚至崇拜骑象人，但骑象人并不能控制大象。骑象人和大象的关系并不是亲如家人，总是状况百出。进而证明我们无法自制。更多时候，意识只是个念头，甚至什么也不是。
